Cathedral and Giralda Private Tour
Discover the hidden secrets of the Cathedral of Seville
Cathedral and Giralda Private Tour
Mon - Tue - Wed - Thu - Fri - Sat - Sun (Approximately 1h 30 min.)
Designed to be one of the largest religious temples in the world, Seville Cathedral was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and an Asset of Outstanding Universal Value in 2010. The Cathedral has all the strength of its builders and all its symbolism will amaze you.
The old Aljama mosque in Seville was demolished and replaced by the Giralda. The minaret, the present Giralda and the famous Patio de los Naranjos remain from the original building. It is close to the Archivo de Indias, the Royal Alcazar and the famous Barrio de Santa Cruz.
For more than 150 years the Muslim temple was the centre of worship for the Christians, and in 1401 the cathedral council decided on the construction of a new temple. Work continued until the fifteenth century, until 1506. According to tradition, the canons wanted to build a church so large that “those who saw it finished would think we were mad”.
During the Renaissance period, various annexes were added to the Gothic temple, such as the sacristy, chapter house and royal chapel. Hernán Ruíz was also responsible for the construction of the last part of the Giralda, which, at 104 metres high, is visible from all over the city and is now an emblematic monument of Seville, housing the body of the bells.
During our tour, our official guide will accompany you to discover all the secrets and history of this magnificent architectural ensemble. We will discover the secrets hidden inside, such as the tomb of Christopher Columbus or the largest altarpiece in the Christian world.
After visiting the Cathedral, we will have the opportunity to stroll through the beautiful Patio de los Naranjos and, if you wish, climb to the top of the Giralda to enjoy the beautiful views over the city of Seville and take some excellent photographs to remember.
